Our Story

Aroma has been making Israel's best coffee for fifteen years, though in 1994 it could only be found in one very specific place. That year marked the opening of the first Aroma Espresso Bar, on Jerusalem's Hillel Street. The second and third branches were opened two and three years later, respectively, and were also located in Jerusalem. Just a short while later Aroma became the largest café coffee retailer in Israel.

Our values have not changed since day one, and they are the secret to our success: Premium coffee, fresh and healthy food prepared according to customer order (be it sit down or take it to go), reasonable prices, contemporary décor and atmosphere and of course, devoted service.

The year 2000 marked a turning point for Aroma Israel, when the first branch opened outside of Jerusalem, followed by many others nationwide. Aroma's unprecedented success in its field has overcome Israel's difficult political and economic situation, and defeated its many competitors both in and out of the country.

In 2004 the chain's nerve center moved from Jerusalem to Emek Ha'ela, where highly advanced coffee, food, and frozen dough factories were established, and began to service the dozens of branches and millions of Aroma clients throughout the country. The coffee factory was built in cooperation with the Ballestra family from Naples, Italy, who for generations has specialized in the production of gourmet coffee. The frozen dough factory produces all of Aroma Israel's baked, bread, and cake products. In 2008 the chain inaugurated a third factory, responsible for producing fresh foods such as sliced fruit, dressings, and the like, and ensures the quality of Aroma's products.

The chain currently boasts 100 branches nationwide, with new branches opening at a rate of about two or three per month, and serves about 25 million customers per year. Our menu also continues to evolve and is constantly adapted to our customers' palates and desires.

In 2006 Aroma went overseas, with its first international branch opening in New York, US, and the second in Toronto, Canada. In January 2009 the chain opened its first branch in Ukraine, in Kiev. Other branches are set to open in North America in the coming years.

Europe sees the chain operating under the brand name 'marrone rosso', which means brown and red, the colors displayed by the finest coffee beans. In May of 2008 the first marrone rosso branch opened in Constanta, Romania. In December 2008 the second marrone rosso branch opened in Limassol, Cyprus. In June 2009 the third marrone rosso branch opened in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The chain will continue to establish itself in these and other European countries.
